Dan Boland

Lighting Director

Born and raised in Kaneohe Hawaii, Daniel came to Los Angeles in 1993 to attend CalArts where he received his bachelor’s degree in lighting design. After graduation, he began a career in the musical touring industry, where he worked his way up to become a production and lighting designer for many musical acts and performers. A shortlist of previous clients include Tori Amos, Indigo Girls, Missy Elliott, Alicia Keys, A Perfect Circle, Blue Man Group, Lil Wayne and Logic.

Since 2005, he’s served as Eminem’s lighting designer. To this day, he still tours with him.

In 2008, when his son was born, Daniel began to transition from full time touring to television. He became a member of IATSE 728 in 2010. In 2012 after working on a number of smaller shows with Darkfire, he was asked to serve as a lighting director on The Voice.

Soon after, he was asked to join the Darkfire team as an associate designer and director. In addition to The Voice, he can be found working on a number of Darkfire shows including, World of Dance, Brain Games, and Quizney.

Daniel still pursues designs for concert touring. He brings a unique design eye that helps live performances be broadcast ready while still maintaining that “big rock” look. When not designing or directing, Daniel can be found riding one of his many bicycles or spending time with his family.
